Is Grunge dead?

Grunge ? anyone

It's funny how all music that was considered "grunge" back in the early nineties, now is only considered to be "alternative".

I read in Rolling Stone Magazine..."Grunge is dead, a band cannot call themselves "grunge" anymore unless they have some type of Seattle roots"

Hmm. I'm not too sure, whats your opinion on this?

What does grunge mean?

Grunge

Grunge? Hey! Isn't grunge that orange stuff on you shower curtains?
Actually, Grunge was what they called the alternative music that arose in the mainstream in the early 90's, originating in the Seattle area. Grunge arose with the bands Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Sound Garden. Though you don't hear many Grunge bands now, Grunge started a musical revolution that hasn't ended.

What is country music? What are country songs about?

Country Music

Country music is one of the more popular genres in American culture and around the world. While not as popular as Rock or Pop, many country music followers are just as loyal. The genre generally focuses on topics such as family life, rural life (i.e. country life), love, loss, and more. It is these topics that allow fans to relate to the songs they regularly hear on the radio and in concert.

Pioneers of the genre include Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, and others. More popular artists include George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, and Reba McIntire. Newer artists that have found crossover popularity with other genres and media forms include Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, and Blake Shelton.

What is alternative music?

Alternative music.

When the term "alternative rock" came out it didn't mean grunge.. or anything that had to do with it. The genre was created because the bands that were coming out at that time (such as Nirvana, Pearl Jam...etc.) did not have a place to be catagorized in, it was an "Alternative" to the big hair bands, and theatrical bands of the late 80's, therefore, producing the name. I think that the name alternative can be given to these new "rock" groups... because they are an alternative thing to listen to besides your typical rock. The term alternative has been strectched way out of proportion.... now when people think alternative they think about Pearl Jam, Bush, and others... when all it was meant to define was an "alternative" type of music.
