Compressors

Essentially, a compressor often comes in the form of guitar pedals, and the compressor effects the automatic volume control. Compressors are not as dramatic in effect as distortion pedals, however they still serve excellent roles within the guitar effect family. Commonly, compressors are used in conjunction with distortion pedals, however they can be used alone.

Compressors are a huge piece of guitar effects, and to learn more, grab a copy of the 101 Music Tip Book.

  • Phaser

  • Wah pedal

These effects, in more technical terms, are known as peak (wah) and notches (phaser). There are plenty more filter effects, but these are the two most common.
