November 8, 2002, Newsletter Issue #66: Compress Your Music

Tip of the Week

Do you have a large collection of CDs taking up extra space around your home? You can reduce the amount of clutter from your CDs by converting your music to MP3 files! (If you have friends or family members who share your taste in music, this is a great gift idea!)

All you need is a computer with a sound card, a CD-ROM drive, and the necessary software. There are a number of shareware programs which will convert an AIFF file (like on your CDs) to MP3 format. You can store the contents of 7-8 CDs on one CD, if you also have a CD burner.

You can listen to your MP3 files on your computer with many audio players. Windows Media Player can also play these files, but one of the most widespread players is Winamp, which is a freeware program and can be downloaded from Winamp.com

If you´re a Mac user, try SoundJam, which can be downloaded from most of the larger shareware sites.
